Ai And The Coming Future

Artificial Intelligence is here to stay, probably forever!

It is no exaggeration to say that AI has pervaded nearly all aspects of our lives. And it is not leaving us anytime soon! Some people love it. Some hate it. But no one can ignore it. This juggernaut is out there. To become an irreplaceable part of our lives.

Do you or I need to fear? Definitely not. As there is a little bit of danger in everything, it won’t be an exception. Moving on, let us look at the innumerable positives.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a global leader in AI integration in policing and safety.

As part of its UAE National AI Strategy 2031, the UAE is leaving no stone unturned in integrating AI into its policing and public safety operations. And enable proactive, data-driven law enforcement and smart city management. Saudi Arabia, too, is not behind in predictive policing using AI.

India is not far behind.

India is using AI in traffic management to transform urban mobility changes effectively. AI-powered solutions, such as real-time traffic analysis and adaptive signal systems, are being implemented across several Indian cities like Bengaluru, Pune, Chandigarh, and Kolkata.

Bengaluru’s Adaptive Traffic Control System (BATCS), Pune Expressway’s Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), Chandigarh’s AI-Driven Traffic Violation System, and Kolkata’s Real-Time Traffic Management System are a few examples of such systems.

Enhancing Indian road safety

AI’s role is critical in analysing accident-prone zones and implementing preventive measures. A few examples are the use of solutions by the Punjab Police to monitor road safety measures and reduce fatalities, the Onboard Driver Assistance Warning System (ODWAS) launched for public transportation, which utilises it to provide real-time driver alerts, ensuring safer journeys.

India also utilises AI for traffic violation detection. This involves a network of high-definition cameras and sensors that automatically detect offences such as red-light jumping, speeding, and not wearing seatbelts. An e-challan or fine linked to the vehicle’s registration is generated. Many Indian cities are using these technologies to enhance road safety and reduce violations.

AI can also be used to monitor and control crime.

Like many others, I envision a future without crime. I recognise that I am dreaming of a utopia. However, with rigorous monitoring through AI and related technologies, along with equally strict deterrents, it would represent a significant advancement towards a crime-free society. Highly sensitive alcohol sensors that notify law enforcement of drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, AI technologies that monitor individuals using cell phones while driving (a prevalent issue in many countries) and alert authorities, and other initiatives will greatly contribute to accident prevention.

Law enforcement agencies are using drones to oversee criminal activities. Sexual assaults are prevalent in many nations, and AI should play a crucial role in averting such atrocious acts. AI will undoubtedly create a society that will increasingly rely on automation. Employment opportunities will diminish. Moreover, malevolent individuals will be more active among us. After all, the well-known adage, ‘An idle mind is a devil’s workshop,’ is likely to become even more relevant in the future. The ideal mind will find peace within itself, regardless of the circumstances. Even if it involves AI or any other innovations that may emerge in the future!
